CCEU Endorsed Candidate for PFT Vice President for Elementary Schools
PFT Vice-President of Elementary Schools Kathy Monti-Trievel has been a consistently strong voice on behalf of educators in District leadership meetings regarding curricula, treatment of educators, and the conditions in our schools. Kathy has been the Vice-President of Elementary Schools for the past two years and an Executive Board member since 2015. She was a PFT Building Representative for 8 years. She is the grade 3-5 ITL at Langley.
Kathy helped with the 2018 AFT National Convention here in Pittsburgh. She co-chaired the fund raiser for Water Systems for Puerto Rico and raised $8,000 for their campaign.
She is an AFT-trained ER&D instructor who has trained other teachers here and nationally and taught the course "Thinking Math" for years. She is a National Board Certified teacher since 2002, has worked with multiple universities and organizations to help other teachers certify and through her union, is responsible for keeping NBPTS certification available for District teachers.
Kathy worked with the PFT and Langley to learn about, create, and establish Langley as a Community school. She attended national conferences to learn about other schools and districts to bring the information back to Pittsburgh and expand our programs. She has been a major force behind the community school movement in her school and across the District. She leads our Community School Task Force and has represented the PFT at community school forums across the country.
