Emily Byrne
CCEU Endorsed Candidate for PFT Professional-Supportive Group Representative
Emily Byrne has worked as a Speech/Language Pathologist in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for over 20 years. She has worked in 17 schools throughout the district. She currently works at Pittsburgh Faison K-5 and City Connections East. Emily is a graduate of Peabody High School and her son attends Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Emily has been a Member on the PFT Executive Board since 2018. Emily participates on the PFT Community Schools Task Force, PFT Political Action Committee, and has been an ER&D instructor at the PFT. Emily is known for representing teacher and staff concerns in the school district and in the community. She has helped represent the Speech/Language Staff for over 15 years. She has represented PFT concerns by speaking in public hearings to the board. Emily has been a delegate to the AFT PA convention, and was a volunteer to help make the 2018 AFT National Convention a success here in Pittsburgh.
She has volunteered for community-based initiatives, helping build bridges between community groups and our union. She has volunteered for the Halloween party for kids to increase participation. She volunteered for the “All in Committee” this summer. She has attended political events like the Meet the Candidates for City Council and marched in many Labor Day parades. She volunteered to help get technology to students at the start of this school year. Her community-based volunteering this summer included delivering meals to families in the East End.
