Brenda Marks
CCEU Endorsed Candidate for PFT Paraprofessional Group Representative
Ms. Brenda Marks became a PFT Building Rep for paraprofessionals at Arsenal K-5 in 2010. She continued as a PFT Rep the following year at Lincoln, then Mifflin for four years, then Woolslair for two. During that period of time she became active in the PFT Political Action Committee (PAC) and the Labor Day Parade committee. In 2012, Brenda was introduced to the concept of a community school model and became an advocate to bring the model to Pittsburgh, first through the PFT outreach committee, then as cochair of PFT Community Schools Task Force.
In 2014 Brenda Marks was elected as a Paraprofessional Group Representative of the PFT member Executive Board, and was selected to be cochair of the para steering committee. She continued her involvement with the PAC, Labor Day committee, and the Community Schools Task Force. In 2018, Brenda was selected to speak at the American Federation of Teachers National Convention and gave an inspirational speech on union involvement and commitment. She is frequently (more than any other member) at the PFT building doing phone banking in support of pro-public education candidates. She is most pleased with the work done by PAC in support of school board candidates who placed a moratorium on school closures, and that PPS is a district with a growing number of community schools.
